Interested in Serving in WV-WMD?

Are you a member of the clergy of the ELCA (or full-communion partner) interested in learning more about WV-WMD? Drop us a line. You can email +Riegel at Bishop@WV-WMD.org or call the office (304-363-4030). There is plenty to commend service and life in our mountains and in our valleys. Like Nebraska, it's not for everyone, but, for those who aren't afraid of an adventure, we have a great mix of challenge and gift. Get to know us a little better by clicking here. Call opportunities fall into two categories: congregational calls and calls to specialized ministry.

*Until an MSP is completed, site type and call type reflect the last time a pastor or deacon served under call or appointment, unless the congregation has consulted with the bishop and reclassified itself. If the MSP is not active or in drafting, take the site type and status with a grain of salt. Feel free to contact the Bishop if you might be interested in the site were the configuration different than what is here posted. PT = part-time; FT = full-time. Pr = pastor; Dn = Deacon.

†In some cases, the congregation has no MSP at this time. Perhaps the congregation is newly vacant and has not yet begun the MSP drafting process.  In rare cases, the congregation may feel it is not ready to draft an MSP for a variety of reasons. If you would like to explore possibilities with these congregations, contact the Bishop.; there may be room for negotiation and consideration of alternative models.

Specialized Ministry

Calls to specialized ministry can mean many different things. When the synod is aware of such an opening on our territory, we will post it here. N.B., if you are on an ELCA roster of ministers, you must be rostered in the synod in which the specialized ministry is geographically located, the exception being specialized ministries with multisynodical constituencies. Please contact +Riegel should you have questions about transfer process.

West Virginia Council of Churches: Executive Director

The West Virginia Council of Churches has opened a search for its Executive Director position. The position is full-time and open to both laity and clergy. The following is excerpted from the search announcement:

The West Virginia Council of Churches, one of the nation’s oldest and most revered state councils of churches, with roots going back to 1820, is embarking on a search for our next executive steward.  Our next leader will be the public face of our common witness to make visible the God-given unity of the whole Church of Jesus Christ on earth and, in particular, in the Mountain State.

The “Chief Ecumenist” will be expected to lead the institutional life as we pursue excellence and faithfulness in the areas of Faith and Order, Life and Work, and Legislative Advocacy and Concern for Public Policy.  The new executive will stand in a long line of church leaders who have been expected to lead our efforts at mentoring young ecumenists,  fostering appropriate communication, ensuring proper funding for our ministry, and representing the priorities and concerns of the West Virginia Council of Churches in our state and on the national scene.

Details are posted on the WVCC website (click here).
