West Virginia --
Western Maryland Synod
ELCA

The West Virginia -- Western Maryland Synod upholds the proud tradition of education that is part of the legacy of the Lutheran Reformation.  Martin Luther was the first advocate for a general education to be provided to every child regardless of gender or social standing--a startling concept for the 16th century!  Our synod relates to a Lutheran College, a Lutheran Seminary, an institute for rural ministry.  The congregations of this synod relate to and/or operate day care services, preschools, and kindergartens.
