The West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod relates to three very different church camps offering variety of Christian camping experiences.
Camp Luther Camp Luther is operated one week each year, beginning with Father's Day in June and concluding the following Saturday. It provides a camping experience for children and youth. The youngest campers have just completed third grade; the oldest campers have just completed twelfth grade. Approximately 425 campers and 75 staff personnel participate in Camp Luther each year.
Caroline Furnace Caroline Furnace is supported by the Metro DC, Virginia, and West Virginia - Western Maryland Synods of the ELCA. Caroline Furnace operates year round, providing a wide variety of services from traditional Christian camping for youth to specialty camps and retreat services for all ages.
Camp Melanchthon is the newest of the three camps. It serves collegians (and those of college age), offering a rare opportunity in the ELCA for collegiate church camping. Conducted during the winter break, campers explore a main topic for the week, worship, and enjoy Christian fellowship.
