Echoes of the Oratory: A Gregorian Chant-Along #3

Workshop Booklet (pdf)
Coming soon.
Mountainside Baroque offers Echoes of the Oratory: A Gregorian Chant-Along 2026 Saturday afternoon, February 21, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 15 N. Smallwood, Cumberland, MD.

For Chant-A-Long #3, Mountainside Baroque board member Bishop Matthew Riegel, along with Co-Director, Lyle Nordstrom, will present a newly revamped version of "Chant-Along" that includes varying levels of participation. Please plan to come be a part of this fun activity, that includes a refreshment break midway through. (There is no charge for the workshop though donations will be welcomed.)

2:00-3:30 p.m. — What's Your Neume? Or, from Punctum to Porrectus: Gregorian Chant for Beginners.

A slow and paced introduction to the basics of chant, including the reading of square notes, for the person who has never chanted before or is unfamiliar with square notes (or music in general). A short break in the middle.

3:30-4:00 p.m. — Break
Thirty-minute break for refreshment and fellowship, allowing folks who have had enough to leave and folks who are coming for the more advanced stuff to arrive. Also allows folks to ask questions more informally or get personal tips.
4:00-5:00 p.m. — Let Us Pressus Forward: An Hour of Chant for Those Who Want To Try the Hard Stuff.
In the last hour, we'll take up some classics, including advanced material. Those who have a favorite can email a request to +Riegel (bishop@wv-wmd.org), and it will be worked in if reasonable. We'll try a little organum.
